Lucid Dreaming
Lucid Dreaming

I first encountered the world of lucid dreaming back in 1981.At the time, I was studying dreams with an old friend who hosted a Dream Circle in his home every Friday evening. His apartment in the Village became the gathering place for dreamers, seekers, and some of the great teachers and authors of the time. We devoured books like Creative Dreaming by Patricia Garfield (1974), a beautiful invitation into the idea that dreams could be shaped, explored, and even consciously entered.

It was then that I first heard of Lucid Dreaming. For those new to the idea, lucid dreaming is the experience of becoming aware that you are dreaming while still inside the dream. Sometimes that awareness arises gently — a soft knowing. Other times it can spark a vivid, exhilarating sense of freedom. In a lucid dream, you may be able to observe, interact with, and sometimes influence the dream's unfolding while knowing you are dreaming.

In the decades since those early Dream Circles, many more books have been written that explore lucid dreaming in greater depth. A few that have become touchstones include:

  • Lucid Dreaming: The Power of Being Awake and Aware in Your Dreams by Stephen LaBerge (1985)

  • Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge and Howard Rheingold (1990)

  • Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self by Robert Waggoner (2009)

Recently, three different people, in completely different settings, have asked me about lucid dreaming.

I’ve learned not to ignore coincidences.

Given the surprising synchronicity around lucid dreaming lately, this Sunday we will take some time to explore it together during our Dream Circle. I'll share a bit more about lucid dreaming, and then, as always, we will open the circle to dream sharing.

You are welcome to share a lucid dream, a memory of a Lucid dream retreat you attended, or simply any dream that calls to you this week. As we usually do, we will listen with open hearts and respond from the perspective of, "If it were my dream..."

🌓✨Dream Circle — Sunday, 4/27 at 4 pm. You have the Zoom link, but I will send it soon.

I look forward to being with you then.

I am an educator, psychotherapist, mixed media collage artist, and author of "My Daughter’s Eyes and Other Stories." As a facilitator for SoulCollage® and Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA), I integrate energy healing, dreamwork, and writing to foster growth and connection. My work empowers individuals and groups to embrace their stories and harness creativity and self-expression for healing.

Since my teenage years, I have been passionate about dream work. In the early 1980s, I joined dream circles and workshops led by William R. Stimson in Chelsea, interacting with renowned dream teachers like Montague Ullman and Patricia Garfield. To deepen my understanding, I studied with Robert Moss, author of The Three "Only" Things: Tapping the Power of Dreams, Coincidence, and Imagination. Currently, I am expanding my expertise with classes by Dr. Stephen Aizenstat, founder of Dream Tending. I lead dream circles, providing a supportive environment for participants to explore their dreams' wisdom.

Contribute with Gratitude

In the spirit of Zen, I embrace the practice of mindful generosity. Rather than setting fixed fees, I offer workshops on a "Dana" (offering) basis, inviting participants to contribute what feels meaningful and aligned with their capacity.

This approach honors the balance between giving and receiving, creating a space where everyone can participate with intention and gratitude.
