About Annecy Báez
Hi, My name is Annecy Baez. I am an educator, psychotherapist, writer, and the author of My Daughter’s Eyes and Other Stories, a collection of fourteen interrelated stories about young Dominican girls growing up in the Bronx. This work won the Mármol Prize for First Latina Fiction in 2007 and has been recognized for its honest portrayal of resilience and identity.
As a social worker and trauma therapist, my work has been gratifying but also emotionally demanding. Writing fiction, and poetry, and creating collages became essential practices for self-care, providing balance and renewal. During this time, I also immersed myself in the healing arts, studying Reiki, practicing yoga, and becoming a Zen practitioner. These practices taught me the power of presence, deepening my work as a —therapist, writer, artist, and healing practitioner. Over time, I’ve seen how these roles complement one another, creating a fuller, richer expression of who I am. This integration now forms the foundation of my creative and professional work.
In addition to My Daughter’s Eyes and Other Stories, my poems and short stories have been published in periodicals and anthologies, including Vinyl Donuts (National Book Foundation), Brújula/Compass and Tertuliando/Hanging Out (Hunter Caribbean Studies and Latinarte), and Riverine: Anthology of Hudson Valley Writers (Codhill Press).
My stories have also been translated into Spanish, including “Butterfly Kisses” as “Besos de Mariposas” (Viajeros del Rocío) and “The Red Shoes” as “Tacones Rojos” (Caudal, Dominican Republic). My work has appeared in Callaloo, where “The Silence of Angels” and poems like “Flowing” and “My Parents’ Room” were featured.

Sweet Cake Enzo (2022), published on HTI Open Plaza.

My creative and professional journey reflects a deep commitment to storytelling, healing, and personal growth. Whether through writing, teaching, or the healing arts, my work seeks to create spaces for reflection, connection, and transformation.
